Lake Como is one of my favorite places in the world to photograph elopements, and I understand exactly why couples fall in love with it: the dramatic mountains, the pastel villas along the water, the quiet little chapels tucked into the hills. But because it’s so popular, there are a lot of photographers here now, and I want to help you choose the right one for your day.
The first thing I’d look for is real experience specifically at Lake Como, not just in Italy generally. The light here changes so much through the day and from one villa to the next, and knowing where to stand at golden hour is something you only learn by shooting the same locations again and again.
I’d also study the portfolio closely for genuine, unscripted moments rather than only styled shots. Elopements are intimate and emotional, and the images I care most about are the ones that show real connection between two people, not a perfect pose.
Before you book anyone, ask the practical questions too: does your ceremony spot need a permit, what’s the plan if it rains, and how many hours of coverage are included? When I answer these for my own couples, I want them to feel completely at ease.
And honestly, trust matters just as much as skill. On an elopement it’s often just the two of you and me for the whole day, so you want someone whose presence feels calm and quiet, letting you stay fully in the moment with each other while I document everything around you.
My style is documentary-led and natural — I’m there to capture your day as it truly unfolds, not to stage it.
FAQ
How far in advance should I book you? I’d suggest six to twelve months ahead, especially for the busy May-to-September season.
Do I need a permit to shoot at the villas? Many private villas need to be arranged in advance and sometimes charge a location fee, and I’m happy to help you navigate that.
When is the best time of year for a Lake Como elopement? I love late spring and early autumn for the soft light and smaller crowds.
