How Much Does a Destination Wedding in Italy Cost in 2027? Lake Como vs Tuscany vs Amalfi

“How much will this actually cost us?” is the question almost every couple asks me on our first call, usually right after “are you free on our date?”. After more than 300 weddings, many of them in Italy, I’ve seen real budgets from the inside: what couples planned to spend, what they actually spent, and where the surprises came from.

So here is the honest version. Not a sales pitch and not a Pinterest fantasy. Just a realistic picture of what a destination wedding in Italy costs in 2027, and how the region you choose changes everything.

Quick answer: typical budgets for around 60 guests

• Tuscany: roughly €35,000–€80,000
• Lake Como: roughly €70,000–€120,000
• Amalfi Coast: roughly €60,000–€150,000
• Intimate wedding or elopement (2–20 guests): from around €10,000–€30,000, depending on the venue and how many days you celebrate

These are ballpark ranges based on current market prices and what I see at the weddings I photograph. Plan for 2027 prices to be at least at this level, and remember that a Saturday in June will always cost more than a Thursday in late September.

Where the money actually goes

1. The venue. This is your biggest single decision. Exclusive use of a villa on Lake Como often starts around €20,000–€25,000 and can go far beyond €60,000 for the most famous addresses. In Tuscany you’ll find beautiful estates from around €6,000–€10,000, while the top castles and borghi go much higher.

2. Food and drinks. Always count per guest. A seated dinner with aperitivo and wine usually lands between €130 and €220 per person in Tuscany, and €180–€350 at luxury venues on Lake Como or the Amalfi Coast. An open bar adds more.

3. Wedding planner. For a destination wedding, a local planner is not a luxury: it’s the person who speaks Italian to the venue, the florist and the town hall. Expect a flat fee from about €3,500, or around 10–15% of the total budget.

4. Photography and video. Usually €4,500–€15,000 combined, depending on hours of coverage, travel and whether you want both. I explain what’s included in my guide to wedding photography prices in Italy.

5. Flowers and design. From about €3,500 for simple, elegant styling to €15,000 and more for installations and ceremony arches.

6. Music. A DJ from about €3,000; a live band or string quartet often €3,500–€10,000 and up.

7. Guest logistics. Welcome dinner, shuttles, boats, room blocks. This line grows fast, and it’s the one couples forget most often.

Lake Como: the most expensive “yes”

Lake Como is where I shoot most, and I completely understand why couples fall in love with it: the evening light over the water is something else. But it comes with its own costs:

• Boats. Many villas are best reached by water, and a private boat transfer typically costs €1,200–€2,500 per boat. With 60 guests you’ll often need two or three.
• Exclusive-use fees. Famous villas often charge a separate fee just to close the property for your event.
• Curfews. Many lakeside venues have strict music curfews, which shapes your timeline and your party.
• Accommodation. Bellagio, Varenna and Cernobbio in high season are not cheap, and your guests will feel it.

My honest take: Lake Como is worth it if you want that iconic view and an elegant, more intimate celebration. For a 150-guest party that goes until 3 am, Tuscany usually makes more sense. If you’re still choosing a villa, here are my favourite villas on Lake Como.

Tuscany: the best value for a multi-day celebration

Tuscany gives you the most for your budget. Many villas and agriturismi include rooms on site, so your guests stay with you and the wedding becomes a whole weekend: welcome dinner, pool day, the wedding itself, farewell brunch. Transfers are simpler, the countryside is usually more relaxed about late parties, and golden hour among the vineyards is unreal for photos.

Watch out for minimum-stay requirements (often 3–7 nights in high season) and the distance between venue, church and hotels. Tuscan roads are beautiful, but slow.

Amalfi Coast: breathtaking and logistically complex

The Amalfi Coast has a limited number of venues that host weddings, peak-season hotel rates of €400–€700 per night, and roads where 10 km can take an hour. Shuttles become a must for bigger groups. It’s spectacular. Just leave extra room in the budget for logistics.

Hidden costs nobody mentions in the first quote

• VAT (IVA). Italian VAT is 22% on most wedding services (lower on some catering). Always ask whether a quote is “IVA inclusa”.
• Weather backup. A marquee or plan B space can cost thousands. In Italy you need one, even in July.
• Overtime. Extra hours for the venue, band, planner and photographer after the planned end.
• Vendor travel. Photographers, stylists and musicians who travel in will charge for travel and accommodation.
• Service charges and tips.

How to save without making your wedding look cheaper

• Choose a weekday or a Sunday. A Thursday wedding in May can cost 35–45% less than the same wedding on a Saturday in July.
• Go shoulder season. Late April–May and September–October give you softer light, fewer crowds and better prices. More in my guide to the best time of year to get married in Italy.
• Cut guests before you cut quality. Every guest adds food, drinks, rooms and transport. 40 guests and a beautiful dinner feels far more luxurious than 120 guests and compromises everywhere.
• Pick a villa with accommodation. Especially in Tuscany: it saves on transport and turns one day into a weekend.

What I would never cut

I’m a photographer, so yes, I’m biased, but hear me out. Flowers fade, the food gets eaten, the dress goes into a box. Photos are the only thing from your wedding day that stays with you and becomes more valuable every year. I’ve seen couples save €1,500 on photography and regret it for years, because nobody can go back and reshoot the moment your dad saw you for the first time.

My advice: set your budget, choose your region based on it, and then book the people whose work makes you feel something.
